Alice Springs is the entry point for many to visit some of the most iconic locations in the Australia’s vast outback, surrounded by amazing never ending landscapes and picturesque national parks there’s something for everyone.
As Alice Springs is pretty much smack bang in the middle of Australia it’s a fair journey to make your way here overland. Many will choose to fly in before starting their journey but if you have the luxury of time on your side then driving, a train ride on the famous Ghan or the Greyhound bus are all sound options and the main roads are all paved.
While in town head to Anzac hill for a lookout over the area, a visit to the old telegraph station is worth a visit to learn about the old phone line that ran all the way from Darwin to Adelaide. At night there are a few cool spots to enjoy a cold drink such as the rock bar.
Most people come here however for one of the most iconic landmarks in the world and it’s surrounding national parks. Uluru is a 5 hour drive west of Alice Springs and there are a multitude of options available for those wanting to visit. Those short on time can enjoy a 1 day tour to the rock to walk around the base but it’s much more worthwhile taking the 3 day tour option which allows you to also explore Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon.
