Visit the Tasman Peninsula with us for a fun-filled day of adventure. With the help of our guides, we will discover, explore, and learn as we take part in a wide range of activities, walks, sightseing, historical events, and much more.
Since this Tassie tour is fast-paced and action-packed, we depart from Hobart early and go straight to the breathtaking Tasman Peninsula. This region has a remarkable past, intriguing tales, and breathtaking landscape. The tallest sea cliffs in Australia are also found there. First, we take in the expansive vistas of the region from Pirates Bay Lookout, which offers a fantastic viewpoint over the area. As you sail by Eaglehawk Neck and “The Dogline,” our tour guides will also tell you some pretty fascinating tales about the area’s past.
One of Tasmania’s “Great Short Walks” then starts. We travel a breathtaking 2-kilometer path along the clifftop of Waterfall Bay. Although the walk is undulating and lasts 45 to 60 minutes, it is rated as easy. The track comes to an end with Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen, two amazing rock structures.
The Tasmanian Devil Unzoo is the next stop. We come here primarily to experience the action of a Tasmanian Devil Feeding. During the eating, see the snarling, fighting, and bone-crushing in a display of demonic behaviour. In the lovely “Unzoo” setting, you may hand-feed the wallabies and stroll amid the native flora and fauna.
As we proceed, we reach the Port Arthur Historic Site. There is a plethora of knowledge and history to absorb as we enter the Port Arthur Historic Site, and you will have time to explore with about 2.5 hours on site. A free Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a led walking tour with one of the Site’s knowledgeable experts are included with your admission. Learn about the early Australian penal system’s gruesome and brutal past to gain a feeling of the isolation the prisoners felt in a “inescapable jail.”
We pass through Richmond Township, a historic township, on the way back to Hobart. You will have time to explore the neighbourhood, stop for a coffee, check out the Lolly Shop, and cross Australia’s oldest functioning bridge—a sandstone bridge erected by convicts that is rumoured to be haunted! Before returning to Hobart, we stop at a local lookout for a spectacular perspective of the city, which makes for a gorgeous route back. We return you to your Hobart City lodging around 6:00 p.m.
