Description

The camel ride begins at the Pyndan Camel Tracks camel farm, which is 20 minutes from Alice Springs by car. Your knowledgeable guide will take you to White Gums Station, where you can take in expansive scenery of the Australian outback, get up close to the MacDonnell Ranges, and get to know your friendly camel team. What better place to view kangaroos and other native animals than on the top of a camel?
As you enjoy a tranquil ride on one of our “ships of the desert,” which are modelled after the vehicles used by Australian outback settlers, you can feel the charm and tranquilly.

To find out more about these endearing animals and peruse a variety of mementos, stop into the “Camel Lounge.” Learn about the history of camels in Central Australia from the welcoming “cameleers.”.

Departure point & times

  • Departs at 2.30 pm
  • Self-drivers should arrive at Pyndan Camel Tracks at least 20 to 30 minutes before the start of their excursion.
  • If you would like a free transfer from your Alice Springs accommodation, we ask if you can be ready 30 minutes prior to departure.

Fun fact

Before the following winter, our camels acquire a fresh coat after losing their wool in the early summer. Usually in December, our camels look very disorganised when the moulting of the camel wool begins. Our camels appear trim and trim for about a month after the moulting wool has been removed naturally, by the camel rubbing itself against a tree, or by us combing the wool off. The wool then starts to develop in preparation for the coming winter.

Important infor before travel

Firstly, come to your camel ride well hydrated; drink water before you leave home!
Choose sun-smart clothing including sunscreen; avoid wearing singlets or shirts that provide no sun protection. Comfortable shoes are best including sandals. Wearing very short shorts or a short skirt may be uncomfortable sitting on your camel. Bring a day pack if you wish.
For insurance purposes, we supply a riding helmet that has a sun visor. It’s not possible to wear a hat under the helmet. If you want added sun protection, drape a scarf around your neck.

Children 0 to 2 years old must ride on an adult’s lap.
Children 3–14 years old are charged a child’s fare, whether they ride on an adult’s lap or on their own seat.
Each camel can seat two people. We’re making sure that people with the same booking ride together.
The total tour duration, including camel rides and transfers, is approximately 2 hours.
