The Northern Territory is famed for it’s iconic desert landscapes. It is host to many of the big attractions on travellers bucket list when visiting Australia.

Visiting the iconic giant rock formation Uluru a.k.a Ayers Rock in the “red centre” is the big ticket item.  If you have the time there’s alot more to this amazing state that you definitely want to visit.

What can I do?

Outdoor adventure is the name of the game when visiting “the NT”. Many visitors will fly into Alice Springs airport in order to begin their trip to Uluru. Alice Springs is 600 kilometres away from the big rock but it’s where alot of car hire options and also tours start from. You can also fly into Ayers rock airport though there’s less options available here and driving in the outback is an experience in itself.

When visiting Uluru you’ll want to do the base walk all the way around. Come sunset time find a good spot to take in the amazing changing colours. In the same area you can also visit Kata Tjuta. The lookouts and walks here are spectacular. The walk around the top of Kings Canyon is the other major attraction here. Those with the fitness can climb “heart attack hill” and explore this awesome area.

Heading north you there’s alot to see as well. Stop off at the Devils Marbles rock formations and marvel at this epic site. Camp at Tennant creek for the night before visiting the famous Daly waters pub. A popular stop with long haul truck drivers for a few cheeky drinks.

Swim in the beautiful waters at Mataranka thermal pools and explore Katherine Gorge before arriving in Darwin. From here you can head to the waterfalls lookouts and swimming holes of Kakadu and Litchfield national parks. While in Darwin we recommend visiting Crocosaurus cove and experiencing the cage of death. Get up close to a massive Crocodile this area is famous for.

If you need a campervan on your trip let us compare the best companies and get you the best deal. Check out our Uluru tour departing from Alice Springs or Ayers Rock.   If heading to the national parks in the north checkout our Kakadu and Litchfield tour.
