Description

The action starts for the twilight bridge climb at our base camp for the climb, which is located beneath the Story Bridge. You will leave our base and climb a spiral staircase to the beginning of our suspended walkway immediately beneath the Bradfield Highway, Australia’s shortest highway, after receiving a brief pre-climb briefing.

Departures

  • Departs 5.40 pm

You will then begin the trek along the suspended walkway to the base of the southern pylon, where you will begin to learn about the colourful history of the Story Bridge and Brisbane. From here, you will be attached to our climb line for the duration of the climb.

It’s time to ascend, so by now you should have warmed up. Start your ascent through the inner eastern bridge arm, moving up to the level of one of Brisbane’s busiest commuter spots, before heading straight up the southern cantilever arm that spans the Brisbane River and rises into the sky. Before you know it, you’re celebrating with the rest of your climbing group on the summit platform, where you can regain your bearings and learn some interesting details about the breathtaking 360-degree panorama in front of you.

Traveling about halfway across the river below, you’ll examine the bridge from a different perspective before returning to the top platform for one last climb group photo before your descent down to our climb base camp.

A group photo taken during the twilight bridge Climb is included with every Climb, and additional individual photos can be purchased.

Iconic Story Bridge

The Story Bridge is Brisbane’s most recognisable building, and climbing it is the finest way to see Brisbane. Discover a distinctive viewpoint of the city and its surroundings, extending from Moreton Bay in the east to the Scenic Rim Mountains in the south and from the Glass House Mountains in the north to the Brisbane skyline and its surroundings. So there’s no need to go further if you’re seeking for Brisbane attractions, things to do in Brisbane, or what’s happening in Brisbane. Story Bridge Adventure Climb offers a unique experience as one of just three bridge climbs in the entire globe.

Important info before travel

All climbers are supplied with a fully enclosed climb suit. Our climb leaders will talk to you about the weather conditions on the day and will suggest what would be comfortable to wear on the climb in conjunction with your climb suit. Accessories provided are, but not limited to; hats, sunglasses, lanyards, rain resistant jackets and sunscreen. All climbers are required to wear fully enclosed rubber soled footwear.

It’s a journey of almost a kilometre up over the bridge’s superstructure with a viewing platform 80m above the Brisbane River as it flows past the city heart.

From the viewing platform of the bridge climbers will enjoy uninterrupted 360° views of Brisbane, its river and surrounding hills and mountains.

  • To the east, views across Moreton Bay to some of the world’s largest sand islands
  • To the north, the Glasshouse Mountains
  • To the west, Mt Coot-tha and Brisbane Forest Park
  • To the south, the world heritage-listed Lamington National Park
