Your Travel itinerary

We travel through the Western Wilds until we reach Strahan, a charming harborside resort on the West Coast. We will explore the magnificent Russell Falls and some of the tallest flowering trees in the world at Mount Field National Park. Then, we’ll make a stop at Lake St. Clair, the deepest freshwater lake in Australia, and take in the spectacular scenery as we travel through Franklin-Gordon National Park. For a look at Tassie’s mining past, Queenstown is our final destination before we reach Strahan. Before dawn: Strahan

We’ll climb to Tasmania’s highest waterfall, Montezuma Falls, in the temperate Tarkine Rainforest as part of  Under Down Under’s tour of the region’s natural splendour. We’ll investigate the vast Henty Sand Dunes along the ocean. Alternatively, you may decide to take today’s optional sail down the enchanted Gordon River (own cost). We enjoy the cleanest air in the world at Ocean Beach later in the day. We can support you in your search for the shy and unusual platypus when you get back to Strahan. Overnight: Strahan

Cradle Mountain National Park offers alpine and glacier scenery. Choose between a tough walk to Marion’s Lookout and a relaxing lap around glacier-carved Dove Lake. Hopefully, we’ll encounter some pleasant wombats at Ronny Creek! We will take in the vibrant murals in the town of Sheffield before travelling to Launceston. Nighttime: Launceston

Before travelling down the picturesque East Coast of Tasmania, visit the breathtaking Cataract Gorge in Launceston. You could be tempted to go swimming in the Bay of Fires (weather permitting). We’ll take our time discovering the lichen-covered stones and white beaches, as well as the area’s cultural significance. You might want to sign up for the optional guided small penguin tour once we get in the quaint seaside village of Bicheno tonight to observe them emerge from the water by torchlight. Bicheno over night

The gem of the east coast of Tasmania is Freycinet, and we make sure you make the most of your stay there. We leave early to beat the crowds to the Wineglass Bay overlook (and the heat). Adventuresome hikers can opt for the harder Mt. Amos climb, or you can take a more tranquil beach stroll. Your visit to Freycinet will come to a close with views of the pink granite Hazards mountains from Cape Tourville, followed by a trip back to Hobart along the Great Eastern Drive. Nighttime: Hobart

Visit Tasmania’s best-known conservation and wildlife sanctuary, Bonorong. You’ll meet a variety of Tasmanian wildlife, such as quolls, birds, wombats, kangaroos, and Tasmanian devils. Then, we’ll take our time to enjoy the heritage village of Richmond. We’ll travel through the winery region of the Coal River Valley on our way back to Hobart and continue to the city’s immense nature playground, Mount Wellington/Kunanyi. Wellington Park is known locally as “The Mountain” and is loved for its fern glades, eucalyptus forests, dramatic rock columns, and boulder fields, with superb walking tracks and spectacular lookouts. We’ll show you some of our favourite places on Kunanyi as our guide helps you appreciate the treasures of Wellington Park. Tonight, unwind in one of the city’s historic pubs or restaurants.

Overnight: Hobart

Discover the rugged coastal scenery and epic convict history of the Tasman Peninsula/Turrakana. As Australia’s best preserved convict settlement, Port Arthur Historic Site is a UNESCO World Heritage-Listed cultural attraction. You’ll learn about Tasmania’s harsh convict history as you explore the expansive grounds and preserved ruins. At Remarkable Cave, we’ll take you on one of the best short walks in Tasmania to experience the impressive coastal sand dunes of Crescent Bay. Finally, at Tasman Arch in Tasman National Park, you’ll appreciate the impact of the powerful Southern Ocean on the highest sea cliffs in Australia. We’ll return to Hobart in the afternoon, as our tour of Tasmania comes to an end.
