Itinerary
Day 1: Rainbow Beach – K’gari (Fraser Island)
Welcome & Departure
We will meet outside Freedom Hostel in Rainbow Beach at 7:30 am. From there, it’s a short drive to the barge. Please note that tides dictate our arrival on the island. Because of this, we may have a surprise stop on the mainland before crossing to K’gari.
Highway to Adventure
Once we arrive on the world’s largest sand island, the adventure begins. Fasten your seatbelts as we jump onto K’gari’s very own highway, the ‘Eastern Beach’. We will travel along the famous 75 Mile Beach before heading inland via Eurong Beach Resort.
Rainforest Wonders
Next, we drive to Pile Valley. This area is known for its towering satinay trees and lush rainforest. We will take a short walk where you can view these amazing trees. Your guide will teach you about the region’s unique flora and fauna.
Lake McKenzie Visit
We then board the 4WD for a short trip to the famous ‘Boorangoora’ (Lake McKenzie). This is arguably the most popular and picturesque spot on our safari. We will stop for lunch here. You will have plenty of time to relax and swim in the lake’s crystal-clear waters. (Bathroom facilities are available for changing).
Wildlife & Culture
Keep an eye out for ‘wongari’ (dingo). Your guide will share important information on how to interact with native wildlife. You will also learn some of the traditional names for these places.
Evening at Camp
After leaving the lake, we head back to 75 Mile Beach and travel to our exclusive permanent bell tents. We will enjoy a sunset platter on the beach, followed by dinner and a relaxing evening by the fire. If the skies are clear, your guide will treat you to a ‘K’Gari Star Show’ away from the camp lights.
Important Note:
Tides and weather may dictate the order of the itinerary activities. Your guide will advise you of the final plan at the start of the tour.
Accommodation: Permanent Bell Tent
Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: Lake Birrabeen, Central Station, Maheno Shipwreck, Eli Creek
Sunrise and Departure
We start early to enjoy the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean before breakfast at our exclusive camp. Afterward, we begin our journey north along the famous 75-Mile Beach.
Beach Highlights
Our first stop is one of the island’s most iconic landmarks, the SS Maheno Shipwreck. You will learn about the ship’s history before it was beached by a cyclone in 1935. We then continue to the crystal-clear waters of Eli Creek, a perfect spot for a refreshing swim.
Inland Escape
Next, we head inland along the Southern Lakes circuit to escape the crowds. Here, we will visit the tranquil and beautiful Lake Birrabeen, another of the island’s stunning freshwater lakes.
Journey Home
After a full day of adventure, we return to 75-Mile Beach and follow the coastline south to the barge. We will then cross back to Rainbow Beach.
