We’ll start our travel along the Great Eastern Drive in Northeast Tasmania, leaving Hobart first. Our first stop is the lovely beach hamlet of St Helens. The Bay of Fires, with its turquoise waters, white dunes, and orange lichen-clad stones, comes next. If the weather permits, you can swim or simply wander barefoot along the beautiful sand. We’ll take our time making our way south along the coast. Taking in the gorgeous countryside until we reach in Bicheno, a charming fishing community. You might enjoy watching the little penguins as they return from the sea to the land after nightfall (own cost).
Bicheno (overnight)
The colours and sceneries of Freycinet National Park are magnificent. We get to the Wineglass Bay Lookout early in the Park, beating the hordes. Choose a route that suits you; the summit of Mt Amos is a difficult climb, or you may prefer to descend to Wineglass Beach or simply relax on a private beach. Later, we take the boardwalk to Cape Tourville, which is considered one of Tasmania’s “Great Short Walks” because of its outstanding panoramic views of the Freycinet Peninsula, including Wineglass Bay and the pink granite peaks of the Hazards highlands. We return to Hobart after a wonderful day spent admiring nature at its best.
Hobart this night
Above all, Bruny Island is arguably the best daytrip experience from Hobart, with spectacular beaches, rare wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and delectable native cheese, honey, and oysters. Today’s highlights include South Bruny National Park and a climb to Fluted Cape, Truganini Lookout at The Neck, and a visit to Adventure Bay’s beautiful beach (with luck we will see unique white wallabies). This day is varied, made even more memorable by our guide’s insights and storytelling, providing a genuine experience of a popular destination for Tasmanians and visitors alike.
This night: Hobart
We’ll begin in Richmond, a charming colonial town, and then travel south to visit the Tasman Peninsula. At Pirates Bay Lookout, we’ll get our first glimpse of the Peninsula, with Cape Huay in the distance. We’ll explore the amazing coastline landscape and geological structures of Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen, and Waterfall Bay in Tasman National Park, where waterfalls cascade into the sea from enormous heights. We’ll walk the windswept coastline from Remarkable Cave to the moon-shaped Crescent Bay, with its staggering sand dunes and powerful ocean vistas; or you can skip the walk to Crescent Bay in favour of a cultural excursion to Port Arthur Historic Site (at your own expense), where you can learn about one of Australia’s best preserved convict sites.
