Kayak with the dolphins – Dolphin guarantee!

The greater Byron Bay area is expected to have roughly 1500 dolphins. The coastline stretches from Brunswick Heads in the north to Ballina in the south. Over 300 dolphins use Byron Bay and its surrounding waters as a breeding ground. These are known as resident dolphins, and they will spend their entire lives in this area. On our cruises, we frequently observe inshore and offshore bottlenose dolphins, as well as some Indo Pacific humpback dolphins and common dolphins.

We see dolphins on 90% of our tours, and if you don’t, you can come back for free another time!

Kayak with the whales

From May to November, you can get up up and personal with whales as they migrate by Byron Bay, Australia’s most easterly point.

For the past 17 years, Cape Byron Kayaks has been providing sea kayak trips, and the anticipation of Whale Season is nearly unbearable, since there is no other experience quite as unique and exhilarating as sea kayaking besides a whale.

During their northern migration, most whales come within 3 km of the NSW coast. During the southern migration Humpback whales bring their calves into the calm waters surrounding Cape Byron to rest and feed. The calves are very inquisitive and playful, they often approach our sea kayak tours with the mother at their side passing just meters from our kayaks. Check out our video in the gallery… you have to see it to believe it!
